Welcome back and Rodeo details

Dear Thurston Students and Families,


Welcome to the beginning of an exciting year at Thurston High School! We hope that this letter finds you rested and well. Our staff is prepared and excited to welcome your students to campus this fall. We hope your students are eager to connect and engage with all that Thurston High School has to offer.


The THS Colt Rodeo is just around the corner on Tuesday, August 30th. Students should come ready to snap their school picture and tackle some before the first day of school details. The first day of class for 9th Grade students is Wednesday, September 7th, and all grades attend Thursday, September 8th. With many new faces, we also wanted to create a space to connect and welcome students and families back for an optional Meet ‘n’ Greet with Admin Ice Cream Social on September 6th, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

We can’t wait to see you in-person!

THS “Rodeo” DETAILS.   


When:      Tuesday, August 30, 2022

Who:        11th & 12th grade   (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) 

          9th & 10th grade    (12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.) 

Where:   THS Courtyard


Come prepared to:

  • Verify that your students' profile information, including emergency contact information, has been received by the school. This information is updated by using the online verification registration.

  • Receive your tentative schedule (schedules are subject to change)

  • Pay Fees On-Site - Associated Student Body ($30)  General School Fee ($25) 

or Pay Fees In Advance - https://tinyurl.com/THSASBFee and https://tinyurl.com/THSStudentFee 

  • Purchase parking space ($30) – Must have a valid driver’s license to purchase

  • Have Student Body/ID Card picture taken (required)

  • Have school pictures taken (optional and information included)

  • Receive information on the 2022-23 yearbook (optional)

Bring in - Proof of Address (if not uploaded during online verification registration and due by Oct. 15th)


Online Registration Verification Process: As soon as possible, and prior to the THS Rodeo, complete the registration verification process at: https://sps.sis.k12.or.us/PXP2_OEN_Login.aspx This is a critical step in verifying your student’s information, including emergency contacts, are accurate for the 2022-23 school year. 


Back-to-School Supplies: In addition to a school-provided device and course-specific supplies, Thurston High School Teachers have compiled a list of items all students should have to engage fully in class. 

  • All students should have a backpack, and a personal supply of paper, writing utensils (both pens and pencils), highlighters, 1-2 notebooks, and a binder. Teachers strongly recommend no zipper binders!

  • 9th/10th grades use scientific calculators such as a TI30XIIS or TI30XS

  • 11th/12th grade students taking Algebra II or above are strongly encouraged to have a TI83 or TI84 calculator (these are allowed on CN or AP exams and the ACT/SAT). 

  • Student clothing should not depict drugs, alcohol, violence or harassment. 


There may be life events that prevent students and families from attending the THS Rodeo on August 30th. A make-up mini-rodeo will be set up in front of Student Services on Thursday, September 8th. Make-up school pictures and Student ID photos will be taken on Friday, September 9th in the school cafeteria beginning at 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
