Scott Crowell Wins Lane County Teacher of the Year

Scott Crowell, Humanities Teacher at The Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield, received Lane ESD’s 2023 Regional Teacher of the Year by Lane ESD, Oregon Department of education, and the Oregon Lottery!

At the ceremony held at the Wildish Theater in front of A3 students and staff, and SPS administrators, Crowell received $1,000 in the form of a giant check.

Everyone in attendance roared with applause when the award was announced. Crowell was very emotional about this honor.

“For me, it’s about providing every student with a tangible experience through projects” Scott Crowell said.

“Scott is very equity-focused, and is constantly thinking of ways to reach students from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds,” Principal Ame Beard said. “His lessons are culturally sensitive and have a profound and positive impact on the school community.”

Regional Teachers of the Year are nominated by students, colleagues, administrators, friends, or family members to apply for the award, and are selected by a diverse panel of regional representatives. Later this fall, one of the Regional Teachers of the Year will be named the 2023 Oregon Teacher of the Year – to be announced in just a few short weeks.

En la ceremonia celebrada en el Teatro Wildish frente a los estudiantes y al personal de A3 y los administradores de SPS, Crowell recibió $1,000 en forma de un cheque gigante.

Todos los asistentes celebraron con estruendo de aplausos cuando se anunció el premio. Crowell estaba muy emocionado por este honor.

“Para mí, se trata de brindar a cada estudiante una experiencia palpable a través de proyectos”, dijo Scott Crowell.

“Scott es alguien muy enfocado en la igualdad, y piensa constantemente en formas de llegar a los estudiantes de todos los orígenes culturales y socioeconómicos”, dijo la directora Ame Beard. “Sus lecciones son culturalmente sensibles y tienen un impacto profundo y positivo en la comunidad escolar”.

Los maestros regionales del año son nominados por estudiantes, colegas, administradores, amigos o familiares para solicitar el premio, y son seleccionados por un panel diverso de representantes regionales. A finales de este otoño, uno de los Maestros Regionales del Año será nombrado Maestro del Año de Oregón 2023, que se anunciará en unas pocas semanas.
