Mt. Vernon receives large grant from Weyerhaeuser

Mt. Vernon Elementary School recently received a large grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund that will allow the school to buy new technology so that every student at the school may have an opportunity to use it.

Weyerhaeuser, a timberland company that's based in the Pacific Northwest, provided $31,700 to the school after teacher Celina Ziolkowski applied for the grant. The money will allow the school to purchase 50 Apple iPads, 100 Chromebook computers and software for the devices.

Prior to the grant award, Mt. Vernon had less than half of the devices needed to allow all students the appropriate access to technology. This additional technology will allow teachers to facilitate more productive, efficient and relevant learning for each and every one of our students.

"We were shocked that we actually got it!" said Mt. Vernon Principal Shelley Nurre. "We're totally excited and overwhelmed with the kindness and honestly in disbelief."
