SPS survey: How would you like school to resume in the fall?
The state of Oregon, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Education, has issued initial guidance for school districts to plan for potential in-person learning in the fall. This guidance includes limits on the number of students in any given space, physical distancing, face-covering recommendations and requirements, as well as updated transportation guidance for school buses.
The state health department is unable to forecast whether these expectations will change when school is set to resume in the fall. Given this uncertainty, Springfield Public Schools will consider all possible learning models to accommodate public health guidelines. While the start of the school year is a few months away, the initial feedback provided by families will help to guide district planning efforts.
SPS families: Please take a moment to review the three basic instruction models currently being considered by the district and share your feedback (in the survey below) based on your family’s situation and comfort level. Thank you for your assistance as we continue to plan for the fall.
Overview of Instruction Models
Learning occurs in a traditional classroom with accommodations for social distancing, cleaning, disinfecting, and symptom monitoring. This model is dependent upon the district’s ability to meet state requirements and recommendations, such as the number of individuals per space.
Learning continues both in-person and remotely. Any face-to-face settings follow protocols set forth by public health authorities as well as safety standards identified by Springfield Public Schools.
Students enroll in the K-12 SPSOnline program taught and supported by Springfield Public School teachers and learning continues at home. This program differs from distance learning that took place in the spring of 2020, as the online learning program was established prior to the pandemic.
