Walterville Elementary fourth-graders record Earth Day PSA

Walterville Elementary fourth-grade students Allison C. and Araballa H. recently won the City of Springfield’s Earth Day PSA contest. As a first-place prize, the two got to record the public service announcement they wrote in the KOOL 99.1 FM studio. The PSA will air multiple times on 22 different Eugene-area radio stations between April 16th and April 22nd – which is Earth Day.

Springfield City Mayor Christine Lundberg also recognized Araballa and Allison at Monday’s Springfield City Council meeting.

The students studied storm water topics in class and used their knowledge on the topic to write and record their PSAs.

“A great benefit of this activity is that students not only learn about an important storm water issue, but others throughout the region will be encouraged to take action based on the PSA they hear on the radio,” said Springfield Public Works spokesperson Laura Keir.

Eugene area Radio Stations (EARS), Kool 99.1 FM and the City of Springfield partnered to make this possible.
