Posted by Kristin Woodford on 6/2/2023

    Yolanda Families,

As we wrap up the year, it is time to verify your registration for next year. This is an incredibly important task that helps us plan space for students returning for the upcoming year. Please go to our SPS website and go to your parentVue account. ParentVue link: https://sv.sps.sis.k12.or.us/PXP2_Login.aspx

If you have trouble logging into your account, please call the office and Christine will help you complete this task. 541-744-6418 The goal is to have this completed by June 10th.

Willamalane 1Pass: Great news! SPS is partnering with Willamalane again this year for the 1Pass. All students are eligible for the great pass. It provides free admission to various locations around town for students as well as a bus pass with LTD.

Springfield Public Schools is covering the cost of 1PASS for the first 4,000 SPS K-12 students to redeem them. Passes do run out quickly, so come to the 1PASS Launch Party for the best chance to get yours.

Willamalane offers 1PASS scholarship. Learn more about the Willamalane scholarship program and download an application here: willamalane.org/scholarship

Launch party: June 10 9:00am-4:00pm at Bob Keefer Center.

    Have a great weekend,

  • Jog-a-thon

Posted by Kristin Woodford on 5/9/2023
    Dear Yolanda Families,
I wanted to share a quick update about our upcoming Jog-a-thon with you all. We have heard from many of you seeking to watch your students run in Friday’s Jog-A-Thon. Thank you to those who reached out! We’ve worked to create a plan to invite spectators to this event. Friday from 10:15-11:00 we invite you to cheer from the grandstands of SHS as our students participate in their jog-a-thon. You’ll have a great spot to view the running and a shaded area as we’re expecting some extra sun and heat. Please allow extra time for parking and making your way to the grandstands. The parking area is used by our neighboring schools and you may need to park in the community. The gates will open at 10:15.

We’ll have a sign-in process for our volunteers and a station to pick up your badges and assignments for the event. We are pleased to welcome all of the Yolanda Community to be visitors in the stands.

Thanks to everyone who helped us make this fabulous event possible. We welcome a return of one of our favorite traditions.
    Many thanks,
    Kari Isham

  • Biking, Walking, and Kindergarten

Posted by Kristin Woodford on 5/2/2023

    Good morning Yolanda Families!
Tomorrow, 5/3 is Walk, Bike & Roll to school day. You will see Emergency vehicles on campus as our community First Responders will be our partners to welcome all to campus.

This Friday 5/5, is our next Early Release for students. The theme is rainbow colors.

Does your student ride a bike to school? Starting this week we will be delaying their departure about 5 minutes so we can clear out our sidewalks before sending bike riders on their way. Our sidewalks are very narrow and we have too many feet all trying to move in opposite directions. Just a heads up your bike riders might be a few minutes behind getting home.

Next Wednesday 5/10 is our Kindergarten Registration night, 6-7 pm.  This will be an opportunity for new kindergarten parents to come to campus and we can assist them getting registered for next year.

Next week is also, Teacher Appreciation Week! Please feel free to share some kind thoughts with our incredible team!
    Many thanks,

    Kari Isham

Posted by Kristin Woodford on 2/13/2023

    Good afternoon Yolanda Families,

Just wanted to quickly share that in case we end up with NO SCHOOL due to snow/ice tomorrow (February 14), we will plan for class parties to be on the next school day.

Also, please check the SPS District website, news stations and radio stations for any information about a school delay or closure.

I wanted to share that we have had several close calls with our crossing guards while helping students cross before and after school.
Please remember to slow down, stop at stop signs and watch for Mrs. Kathy to direct traffic while at the intersection in front of school.

Lastly, Monday February 20th is Presidents' Day and a non-school day for students.

    Many thanks,

    Kari Isham

  • Welcome

Posted by Kristin Woodford on 8/22/2022

Dear Yolanda Students, Parents and Guardians,

It’s that time of summer… to start thinking about the start of a new school year, connecting with friends, greeting new classmates and digging back into learning and growing our brains.

School starts on Wednesday, September 7th at 8:35 a.m. Doors open at 8:00 for students who eat breakfast at school and at 8:15 for everyone else. Our school day is from 8:35 – 2:50. Teachers will welcome students into class at 8:20, if your student arrives before 8:20 they will need to wait in the gym.

This year, if you are dropping off your child, you may walk them to the classroom door in the mornings. We ask that you say your goodbye outside in the hallway and then depart campus. We are excited for this opportunity that has been missing for the past couple of years. If you plan to do this the earliest we can have you in the hallways is 8:20, so you will need to plan accordingly. Dismissal will still require adults to meet their students outside the gates.

    Our Classroom teachers this year:

Kindergarten: Mrs. Badenoch, Mrs. Price, Mrs. Thompson

First grade: Mrs. Arnold (Harbour), Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Norris

Second grade: Mr. Mabus, Ms. Stevens

    Second/Third grade blend: Mr. Fine

Third grade: Mrs. Jones, Ms. Zsiga

Fourth grade: Mrs. Brice & Mrs. Connor, Mrs. Bowman, Mrs. Masterson

    Fourth/Fifth grade blend: Mrs. Robinette

Fifth grade: Mrs. Paschall, Mrs. Pratt

    Learning Specialist: Mr. Sasser

    Behavior Specialist: Mrs. Bramhall

    Music: Mrs. Woodford

    PE: Ms. Howe

    Library: Mrs. Sebright

    Building sub: Ms. Dillon

    Registration:

We have moved to an online registration process. You can access this site from the Springfield

School district website https://www.springfield.k12.or.us/enroll. If you have not registered your child yet, please do so as soon as possible. Your child will not be on a class list if they are not registered. If you are in need of assistance, please call the school: 541-744-6418, Ms. Christine, our Secretary, can assist if needed.

    Meet your Teacher:

Come and meet your teacher and drop off your school supplies on Tuesday, September 6th from 4:00-5:00. Go to your classroom drop off supplies, meet your teacher then go to the playground to enjoy a treat from our PTO. We will stagger this event to ensure that everyone feels safe and welcome entering our campus. Families with the last names starting with A-L will come at 4:00 and families with last names starting with M-Z will arrive at 4:30. We ask that large groups of adults don’t congregate inside of the class but rather take a quick trip inside, snap a picture of your student and head back outside to chat with your teacher. Supervision while on the playground will be the responsibility of parents for this event.

    Kindergarten:

Kindergarten runs from 8:35-2:50. Please note that the first week of kindergarten includes a staggered start. A staggered start means that half the class will attend kindergarten the first day of school and the other half the second day of school. No kindergarten students will attend school on Friday. All students will be back with the entire class Monday, September 12th. The staggered start helps greatly with the transition to school for our new kindergarteners.

Wednesday, September 7th- Kindergarten students with last names starting with A-L.

Thursday, September 8th- Kindergarten students with last names starting with M-Z.

Friday, September 9th- No kinder students will attend school, class lists posted in front of school at 4:00.

    * Kindergarten students that do not ride the bus, must be met by an adult at the kindergarten gate at the end of the day for a teacher to parent ‘hand off.’

Health and Safety: We are excited that this year will look more like school before the pandemic. However, we still take health and safety seriously. If you would like your student to be masked while at school, we will still provide masks here at Yolanda. We will also be sanitizing regularly and practicing good hand hygiene. As always, if your child is sick please keep them home and call the front office so we can accurately record the absence. If you have any questions regarding whether or not your child should come to school please call the front office.

Visitors and Volunteers: While we love having parents, families and other guests at school, we are not able to have any visitors in the building between the hours of 8:00 - 4:00. However, we are able to have volunteers in the building during school hours. If you are interested in volunteering, please use this link to fill out the district volunteer application. Through this online portal, you will fill out forms for a background check and upload a photo of your Covid vaccination card. Volunteer opportunities will be guided by teacher requests. We will continue to follow current guidance and will update our policy as safety guidelines allow.

If you need to pick up your child during the day, you can call ahead so we can have your child ready to go. When you arrive, you will need to come to the door with your ID.

    Bus Routes:

Please check the district website for the 2022-2023 bus routes

https://www.springfield.k12.or.us/Page/85 or call (541) 744-6373. Please take some time to review bus behavior and stops with your child.

    Parking Lot:

We strive to make pick-up and drop-off as smooth as possible. We have a lot of families that pick up and drop off students which makes our small parking lot incredibly busy and congested. We ask that you follow these guidelines:

*Please do not allow your children to run through the parking lot.

*Follow the traffic markings to keep everything moving.

*The curbside lane is for QUICK drop offs. This means your student is ready to quickly unload independently. For students that enjoy or need a longer more personal drop off, please park and walk your student in, do not use the curbside drop off lane. The second lane is for cars that have dropped off their students to use as they exit the parking lot. *Students can unload from their car as soon as they can access the sidewalk. This is close to our readerboard.

    * The third lane, (the front row of parked cars closest to the school), in the parking lot is also for exiting. Please do not drop off your students in this lane because they often need to cross in front of cars without an adult and it causes delays in those exiting the parking lot.

    * For after school pick ups, we ask that your student knows which car they are looking for if you will be using curbside pick up. If you need to park and wait for your student, please use the parking lot so we don’t experience backups and long lines. Please discuss a specific location for them to find you. For example by the big tree, by the bike racks.

*Bike racks are to be used for parking and securing bikes. This is not a space for climbing, running or playing games. Our playground is open after school and is a safer place to enjoy conversation and play with friends.

    * As always, we appreciate your kindness, understanding and shared conversations as we focus on student safety. I ask that we model and practice patience in front of our students during this busy time.

    Collaboration Early Release:

There are 15 early release Fridays throughout the school year for all elementary, middle and high schools. Early release will allow staff to collaborate and plan together the best ways to support individual students without requiring additional no-school days. For a full list of early release Fridays, please see the district calendar located on our webpage at

https://www.springfield.k12.or.us/domain/107. Students will be served lunch just as they are on a regular school day. The elementary early release time is 12:30.

    Technology Devices:

Most of our students have devices at home from last school year. Those who do not will have them checked out during the first couple weeks of school. Remember, devices will be going back and forth from home to school. Please help your child set up a routine to take care of their device at home and charge it every night.

    School Breakfast and Lunch:

Breakfast and Lunch will be free to all Springfield Public Schools students this year.

    School Supplies:

Please visit the district website to see the school supply list.

    https://app.teacherlists.com/browse/city/Springfield/Oregon

    Email communication:

It is very important that we have a correct email address for parents. You will be able to access communication platforms and we can send you important information and updates as we continue through the school year.

Please note these important dates on your calendar:

    On-going (online) New Student Registration

Thursday, September 6th Meet Your Teacher and Ice Cream Social 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

    Wednesday, September 7th FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL – 8:35 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Friday, September 23rd First Early Release Friday: KG – 5th will be released at 12:30

THERE IS NO SUPERVISION BEFORE SCHOOL, UNLESS YOUR STUDENT IS IN BREAKFAST. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR STUDENTS UNSUPERVISED BEFORE SCHOOL. DO NOT DROP OFF STUDENTS PRIOR TO 8:00 if they are eating breakfast and 8:20 if they are not.

    PTO:

We are very blessed to have an incredibly involved PTO group. Please consider joining this positive, creative and dedicated group that supports so many activities and classroom enrichment opportunities. They will have a table set up at our Meet the Teacher event. You can also send an email to: yolandaelementarypto@gmail.com

THANK YOU for sharing in our excitement as we welcome back our returning Yolanda Cougars and greet our new incoming students. We believe in providing a safe, welcoming, inclusive and FUN place for our students daily. I encourage you to communicate directly with your teachers and our front office if you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to sharing this year of learning with you all, as we continue to be thoughtful about health & safety and find creative ways for our community to engage in supporting our students.

    Many thanks,

  • Enrollment for 2022-2023

Posted by Kristin Woodford on 5/17/2022

    Yolanda Families,

It's that time of year again!  It's time to confirm your enrollment for next year and verify the information that we have on file for you and your students.  Verifying early helps us plan for next year and gives the office time to process the information before summer break.

This year, ParentVue is even easier than ever to use, and we are trying for a 95% online participation by June 1st!  Once you get information in for one student, it's super easy to add another and update them all at once.  You can even do it on your phone. No more paperwork, and no more repeating information for multiple students.

To access your ParentVue account just use the link below.  If you have already been in ParentVue but have forgotten your password, we can reset it.

If you haven't been in yet, we can give you an activation code that will get you started.  You'll then be asked to create a password.

What to look for in ParentVue:

2022-2023 Annual Review- This packet is for returning students.  Parents will be asked to review and update district records for your family. The packet also provides forms and documents for the upcoming school year.  Please take the time to review all the information carefully.  Be sure to update any custodial or health information that we need to know.  Check your phone numbers, work information and review emergency contacts.

2022-2023 New Enrollment- This packet is for new students to the Springfield district.  Please choose this enrollment if you have a mix of new and returning students.

Please know that, as always, you can call the office anytime for help at 541-744-6418.

  • Welcome Information

Posted by Kristin Woodford on 9/1/2021 9:00:00 AM

Dear Families and Yolanda Students, (Spanish letra a continuación)

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. I hope your summer was full of family, friends and all things wonderful and that you are ready to jump into new learning with our amazing staff this year.
We again have new guidance from the state and I’d like to share with you a little more about what that means for the upcoming school year. All future communications will be sent through email. Thus, having an updated email address will be very important.

    New students registration:

This year families are asked to register their children online. You can access this site from the Springfield School District website. If you have not yet registered your student please do so as soon as possible. If you need assistance please call the school at 541-744-6418. Additionally, we will be hosting an in person registration opportunity on Wednesday, August 25th from 9-12 & 2-5. We will have staff available to help during this time.

Below you will find helpful information about the upcoming school year. This year, all communication from the office will be sent through email, so it will be very important that we have your most recent email address. You may want to check Parent Vue to make sure we have your most up to date information.

    Online learning opportunities for students:

Many families want to know what the educational options are for their child this Fall. Each SPS family has three options: 1) Your child will attend in-person at Yolanda five days a week
    2) SPS Online (Below is information about SPS Online)
    3) Brattain Online (Below is information about Brattain Online)

    • ●  The two online programs are SPS Online & Brattain Online. Each program provides varied levels of synchronous (live/virtual) and asynchronous (not live/recorded/independent work) opportunities for students.

    • ●  SPS ONLINE has been a virtual program in our district for many years. This is a primarily asynchronous program with independent pacing and supports including virtual check-in, monthly drop in sessions, and online support. This is available K-12. SPS ONLINE supports state standard requirements. Elementary offerings are taught by outside instructors.

    • ●  BRATTAIN ONLINE is a blended program that offers daily live synchronous online instruction for core classes, in addition to opportunities for self-guided, self-paced instruction for K-12 who live in Springfield School District Boundaries. All other subject areas will be provided asynchronously. The elementary program provides daily care and connection opportunities in support of social skills, school readiness, and meaningful connections. Brattain Online uses the same learning targets and standards as our brick & mortar schools. Curriculum in core subject areas will be designed and taught by SPS staff.

All students enrolled in the SPS Online program last year have been returned to Yolanda for the 2021-2022 school year. If you want your child to attend either of the SPS Online programs, you will need to enroll your child in either SPS Online or Brattain Online.

      Visitors & Volunteers:

While we love having parents and volunteers on campus, currently we will not be able to have any non SPS students or employees in the building at this time. We will continue to follow current safety guidelines and practices. We will communicate with our families when this becomes an option.

    Picking up students:

Please call ahead if you need to pick up your student any time during the day. We will do our best to have your child ready to go for your arrival time. You will need to come to the door with your ID so we can verify eligibility for student pick up.

    Transportation:

If your child rides the bus you will need to register through our transportation department. Please go to the Springfield School district website. Select Transportation Options, Register for Transportation, and then Let’s Talk. Remember your child will have to wear a mask while on the bus at all times.

Parent drop off or pick up (cars):

Please see the attached drop off/pick up map.
    ● Our parking lot is an extremely busy place, we ask that you stay alert and watch for students. During this

process you will not be getting out of your vehicle or parking it will be a “paused parking” loop. Should you need additional assistance you will need to park in a designated spot.

    Arrival & Dismissal:

School hours are 8:35 - 2:50 Monday through Friday.
There is no supervision before 8:15 or after 3:00. Please do not leave your students unsupervised at school
Doors will open at 8:15 for students. All students arriving at this time will wait in the gym until teachers pick up at 8:25. If your child arrives after 8:35, please have them stop by the office to check in.

    Early Release Fridays:

Elementary early release is 12:30pm. For a full list of early release Fridays, please see the district calendar. Students will be served lunch on early release Friday.

    Kindergarten:

Please note that the first week of kindergarten includes a staggered start. A staggered start means that half the class will

attend kindergarten on the first day of school, and the other half on the second day of school. No kindergarten students th

will attend school on Friday. All students will return Monday, September 13 . This staggered start helps with the transition to school for our new kindergarteners.

Wednesday, September 8th: Kindergarten students with last names starting with A-M only. Thursday, September 9th: Kindergarten students with last names starting with N-Z only.
Friday, September 10th: No kindergarten students will attend school, class lists posted by 4:00pm. Monday, September 13th: First day of kindergarten for all students.

    Student Devices:

Springfield Public Schools is now a one-to-one device district. Our kindergarten and 1st grade students are issued iPads, our 2nd grade students are issued touch-screen Chromebooks, and our 3rd-5th grade students are issued Chromebooks. If your student does not already have a device checked out to them, we will issue them a device during the first two weeks of school through library services.

    School Breakfast and Lunch:

    • ●  This year, ALL Springfield Public School students will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge.

    • ●  Students are still welcome to bring lunch from home.

    • ●  We encourage students to bring a water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day.

    • ●  Students can purchase milk if they are bringing a cold lunch from home. Milk is .40

      Health and Safety:

Along with the safety procedures outlined above for student arrival and dismissal, we will also be increasing cleaning and sanitizing procedures throughout the building. Students and staff will wear masks while in the building, follow social distancing requirements, will frequently wash or sanitize their hands, and keep frequently touched surfaces clean. Face masks will be required for parents entering the front office or any indoor building space. We have recently received updated guidance from the Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority. We will continue to follow the guidance outlined in Ready Schools, Safe Learners Resiliency Framework for the 2021-22 school year.

Attendance: Oregon Law requires that you ensure your child maintains regular attendance. This includes arriving on time. An absence is considered excused only in the case of a family death, student illness, or doctor appointment. If your child misses school due to a medical appointment, we are happy to excuse him/her when a note from the medical provider is submitted to the office. All other absences are marked as unexcused, including family vacations. Please contact the school by 9:00am if your child is absent, and share the reason for your child’s absence.

      Yolanda PTO:

Yolanda does have an organized PTO, however we are still waiting on the guidance for the format for our meetings. Stay tuned for more information.

      Meet & Greet:

Typically in the past we have hosted a meet your teacher event the evening before students returned. However, out of an abundance of caution we plan to connect with you virtually. This means students will bring their school supplies on their first day of school. More information about this virtual opportunity will be sent home via email.

      Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

8/25 New Student Registration at YES 9:00-12:00 & 1:00-3:00, online registration is preferred

Lastly, I would like to introduce myself. I am thrilled to be returning to Yolanda this time as your administrator. I have had the privilege to teach with several of our current staff and am excited to welcome aboard our new staff. I am starting my 21st year as an SPS educator and am a proud graduate of our education system. It is my pleasure to jump into this year with you all, listen to your thoughts and share this journey as all students and families are welcomed to our school. I look forward to celebrating the hard work and accomplishments we will see this year and ask, if you have questions to connect with your child's teacher or myself. We are excited to see you all soon.

    Many thanks,

    Kari Isham

    Muchas gracias,
