Transfers to Springfield Public Schools

    • At Springfield Public Schools, we offer an excellent core education for our students. Our schools are full of opportunities to learn, grow and excel. We welcome applicants from other districts as long as space permits.
    • Inter-District Transfer windows are open to incoming K-11 nonresident students

The best time to apply from another district is in January.
For those who miss the January transfer window, the next opportunity to apply will begin April 1

    Attention, Out-of-District students:
Out-of-district transfer students may submit their applications beginning January 2nd. Applications are also accepted during the Phase 2 Transfer window beginning April 1st.
    • If applications are approved in January or April, the student will not need to reapply the following year unless they are moving to a different level (e.g., elementary to middle school) or has changed addresses. Returning transfer students should review acceptance letters for clarification.

  • Phase 2 Transfer Period
    • April 1: Transfer applications will be accepted for Phase 2 Transfers beginning April 1.
      • Applicants are placed on a four-tiered priority list: (1) Returning seniors are given top priority. (2) Students who attended a Springfield school during the previous school year and are requesting to return to their current Springfield school for the next year are given priority over (3) siblings of a current Springfield student and (4) new applicants.
      • Phase 2 Transfer requests will be granted as long as space is available at the requested school and grade level and there is no within-district waiting list.
    • High Priority and Phase 2 transfers are valid until it is time for the student to change to a different level (for example, from elementary to middle or from middle to high).
    • All transfer students must reapply if their family moves from the address given for the original transfer.
    • All students who receive inter-district transfers outside of the high-priority or phase 2 windowns must reapply the following year.

    • Students granted a High Priority or Phase 2 transfer may continue in the assigned school without reapplying.
    • However, students must reapply when changing from elementary to middle or middle to high school or if they move from the originally approved address during the school year.
    • Students granted an IDT (that is, request outside of the High Priority or Phase 2 transfer period) must reapply each year.
    • Transfers will not be considered to participate in extra-curricular or athletic activities.
