Winter Athletics: Celebrating a Season of Excellence

Springfield Public Schools student-athletes delivered an outstanding winter season, marked by historic achievements, state titles, and unforgettable moments of teamwork and school pride. From the pool to the mat to the court and the sidelines, our students represented their schools and community at the highest level.

Springfield High School Girls Basketball: State Runner-Up

The Springfield High School girls basketball team capped off an incredible postseason run with a second-place finish at the state championship. Competing on the biggest stage, the team demonstrated determination, resilience, and strong teamwork throughout the season.

Individual honors highlighted their success. Nuari Filipe earned First Team All-State recognition, while Sailor Hall was named Second Team All-State—well-deserved honors for their leadership and performance.

The championship atmosphere reflected the strength of the Springfield community. The student section brought energy and enthusiasm, cheerleaders kept the momentum high, and the band and fans filled the arena with support. It was a powerful example of school spirit and sportsmanship in action.

Thurston High School Wrestling: State Champions

Thurston High School’s boys wrestling team captured the 5A OSAA State Championship, showcasing dominance, depth, and determination throughout the competition.

Individual state placers included:

  • 1st place: Sam Greenstreet, Michael Salas Sanchez, Bill Matheus

  • 2nd place: Lukas Salas Sanchez, Emmit Distefano, Tanner Brumble

  • 3rd place: Ivan Henderson, Ethan Regas

  • 4th place: Chase Brumble

  • 5th place: Landon Cramer, Truman Winningham

  • 6th place: Jaxon Harada, Aiden Clark

The Thurston girls wrestling team also delivered a strong performance, finishing 6th overall at the 5A/6A OSAA State Championship. Individual placers included:

  • 2nd place: Allison Cummings

  • 3rd place: Kassidy Hadden

  • 5th place: Rosie Montes

Thurston High School Swimming: Making History

The Thurston boys swim team made school history by winning the state championship—the first in program history.

The team’s success was powered by standout individual and relay performances:

  • 1st place: 200 Medley Relay (setting a 5A state record)

  • 1st place: 200 Freestyle Relay (setting a 5A state record, broken twice during the meet)

  • 1st place: Quinn Devenport (50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle)

  • 1st place: Brody Wyatt (100 Butterfly)

  • 1st place: Wayko Sanders (100 Backstroke)

  • 2nd place: Brody Wyatt (100 Backstroke)

  • 4th place: Wayko Sanders (200 Individual Medley), Aiden Sanders (100 Breaststroke)

The Thurston girls swim team also had strong individual performances:

  • 3rd place: Madelyn DelCastillo (200 Freestyle)

  • 4th place: Madelyn DelCastillo (100 Breaststroke)

  • 5th place: 200 Medley Relay

Thurston Cheer: Competing Among the Best

Thurston High School’s cheer team continued its tradition of excellence, finishing 2nd at the state competition and earning an impressive 4th place finish at nationals. Their performances showcased athleticism, precision, and school pride on both the state and national stage.

Across all programs, Springfield Public Schools student-athletes demonstrated what it means to compete with integrity, represent their schools with pride, and support one another as a community. Congratulations to all of our athletes, coaches, and supporters on an exceptional season.
