Thurston Girls Wrestling 2024 State Champions; Boys Wrestling Takes Second

Thurston High School boys and girls wrestling teams came home from the OSAA 5A/6A state championship on Saturday, February 24, 2024 with some impressive hardware.

Thurston High School girls wrestling are your 5A/6A state champions! The team came out on top with 140.5 points over Dallas (106) and Redmond (102). 

The title is their first as an OSAA sanctioned sport and their second since 2020. 

The state championship follows their regional title earned two weeks earlier. 

Izabella Castlebery earned an individual state title while Rubie Winterburn and Kristal Zamora placed second at state.

The Thurston boys wrestling team put up an impressive showing in the 5A state championship as well, earning second place. Colton Annis took home an individual championship. 

Michael Salas Sanchez, Mason Hakki and Sean Regas had second-place finishes, while Holton Halstead earned third place.

Head Coach Mike Simons took home accolades of his own, as he was named the 5A Boys Coach of the Year as well as the 5A/6A Girls Coach of the Year.
