THS-Bound Kinders Dream Big; SHS Kinders Next!
In a night they won’t soon forget, Thurston’s oldest and youngest students came together to inspire and dream big. Thurston High School hosted on February 7 a Dream Big event at the halftime of the girls' varsity basketball game. The night was part of the District’s Go Beyond campaign.
Student-athletes and high school student leadership stuffed bags with water bottles, notes, and shirts that said “Future Colt.” As Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” played over the speakers, the high school students met the kindergartners at center court, where the high school students gave the bags to the excited kinders who were representing several elementary schools throughout Springfield Public Schools. The students exchanged smiles and hugs and then took a group picture.
The event is designed to connect high school and elementary students while inspiring those just starting their academic journeys.
Springfield High School will host a similar event at a basketball game on February 21.
