Budget Committee Approves Operating Budget; Hearing set June 9

Budget Committee Approves Operating Budget; Hearing set June 9
Brian Richardson

The Budget Committee approved the 2025-26 Operating Budget during its first work session. A public hearing is now set for June 9, 2025.

At its May 8 meeting, the Budget Committee heard a presentation about the proposed document. The information shared at the meeting continued the conversation from the three work sessions held earlier this year.

Superintendent Todd Hamilton summarized the budget saying it reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting every student, every day. Guided by community input and past strategic investments, the budget prioritizes student achievement, mental and behavioral health, and equitable access to learning. With the expiration of federal ESSER funds and continued enrollment-driven funding challenges, we are making necessary adjustments to sustain high-quality programs while preserving financial stability. The budget includes targeted investments in teaching, learning, and infrastructure, maintains a 5% reserve, and positions the District to remain resilient in the face of economic uncertainty.

Since the Budget Committee approved the budget, the remainder of the Budget Committee meetings have been canceled. The public can provide additional feedback during the June 9 public hearing. The Board of Directors is required to adopt the budget no later than June 30, the last day of the 2024-25 fiscal year.
