Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day November 14

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day November 14

For the third consecutive year, hundreds of Springfield Public Schools (SPS) students, school and District staff, and community partners from the Lane African American Black Student Success Program gathered to celebrate Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on November 14, 2023.

Several schools met at nearby locations and walked together to school, while others participated in a walk on the grounds of their school. Students learned about Ruby's ongoing mission to end racism one step at a time and made signs reflecting the values of kindness and unity

The walk is a nation-wide event in celebration of Ruby Bridges, the first Black/African American child to integrate New Orleans’ all White public school system in 1960. Ruby was 6-years-old when she made that courageous walk to school.
