Putting a Name to the Face: SPS Goats Officially Named

Since their introduction as four-legged members of Springfield Public Schools' (SPS) facilities and maintenance team, the five male goats assigned to keep bioswale areas of the District blackberry and weed-free have brought a lot of joy to everyone who has heard their story.

At the heart of everything we do is our commitment to "Every Student, Every Day." Naming the goats provided an opportunity to engage students in a fun civics exercise in the form of an election. Elementary students nominated names, with their principals submitting a final pick for each of the goats. On Election Day, November 5, 2024, middle school students received ballots that they used to cast their name selection vote.
