'Goat' Excited - It's Time to Name Our Goats!
Through October 25, SPS elementary students will have the opportunity to nominate names for each of the five male goats in the District's herd. The goats, acquired by the District for cost-effective, environmentally-friendly weed mitigation, made their debut in September 2024. Elementary schools received videos and pictures of the goats, as well as a short personality profile, to assist in making an informed choice.
Elementary school principals will serve as an electoral college, choosing which names their schools will advance to the final ballot.
Ballots will be delivered to Springfield Public Schools' four middle schools where sixth, seventh and eighth graders will participate in a civic education exercise by casting their confidential votes to choose the name of each goat. When the votes have been tallied in the District administration office, the names of the goats will be announced on this website and District social media.
