Brian Megert chosen as SPS Assistant Superintendent

Springfield Public Schools (SPS) has selected Dr. Brian Megert as the District’s next Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, pending approval of his contract by the Springfield School Board at its June 22 Special Meeting.

Dr. Megert brings more than 25 years of experience in public education, including 16 years of district-level leadership in Springfield. He currently serves as the District’s Director of Special Programs, where he provides leadership across Special Education, Health Services, Federal Title Programs, Section 504, Long-Term Care and Treatment, and other student-centered support systems.

In his current role, Dr. Megert co-directs the districtwide implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including Response to Intervention and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Dr. Megert champions the strengthening of academic and behavioral supports, supporting principals as instructional leaders, and using data to guide continuous improvement.

“Dr. Megert is a collaborative, student-centered leader with a strong record of building systems that support student success,” said Jodi O’Mara, Acting Superintendent. “I’m excited for how he will continue to build on recent successes to further improve academic achievements for Springfield students while deepening the connection with families and staff.”

During his time at SPS, Dr. Megert has helped lead work tied to curriculum alignment, intervention systems, professional learning, and student outcome data. He has supported districtwide efforts that contributed to gains in reading outcomes, high school success, and graduation rates for students receiving special education services. Additionally, he’s represented the District in state and national forums, including presentations on MTSS and PBIS implementation.

“I’m excited to work collaboratively with the incoming interim Superintendent, staff, families, and community to support every student with a coherent, responsive, and equitable system of support,” said Dr. Megert.

Dr. Megert earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, Master of Science in Special Education, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Oregon. Once his contract is approved by the Board, Dr. Megert will begin serving as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction on July 1, 2026.
