2026-27 School Year - Everything You Need to Know
Allison McGowan

Get ready, get set....as one school year comes to a close, the groundwork is being laid for the next. Here's your one-stop-shop checklist to get your family ready for next year.

Download the SPS Connect App - The SPS Connect mobile app is designed with parents and staff in mind. Stay informed and up-to-date with personalized news, events, and resources. Download SPS Connect in the App Store or on Google Play to get lunch menus, the academic calendar, and more - right at your fingertips!

Register and Review - Complete your registration or the Annual Student Review in ParentVUE. Completing the Review as soon as possible not only checks it off your list, but it helps us prepare and plan staffing and resources for next year! The Review is also a good time to update items like contact, health or custodial information. Links to transfer information, Dual Immersion registration and more can also be found on this page.

Bus Registration - Opens in summer - Eligible students who will be riding the bus need to register for transportation each year. Registration opens in summer, watch our website and social media for the announcement! Families of registered bus riders will receive an email invitation to download the free Stopfinder app with information about your student's bus schedule at anytime, from anywhere.

2026-27 Academic Calendar - The 2026-27 Academic Calendar was approved by the Springfield Board of Education at its April 13, 2026 meeting. Download the academic calendar and find key dates here.

First Day of School (Half of kinders, grades 1-5, 6 & 9): Wednesday, September 9

First Day of School (Half of kinders, grades 7-8, 10-12): Thursday, September 10

No school for kinders ONLY on Friday, September 11

*A3, The Academy of Arts and Academics, has its own calendar.

School Supplies - We've partnered with TeacherLists again this year, providing the option of one-click online shopping. *Maple Elementary school supplies have been purchased by a community donor; Maple families do not need to purchase supplies.

Breakfast and Lunch - Breakfast and lunch are free for every SPS student every school day in 2026-27! SPS Nutrition Services uses the LINQ Connect menu platform which provides access to view the delicious and nutritious meals prepared daily. Simply select your school to see the menu or download the app. Get the links here.

Student Health - The District Health Services page includes a handy guide to symptoms and when and how long to keep kids out of school due to illness.

Immunizations: To register for school each year, you must be able to show that your child has received at least the first dose in any required vaccine series or the proper documentation to claim an exemption. The deadline for Oregon students to receive all required vaccinations is the fourth Wednesday in February, every year. Your health care provider or the Springfield Schools Health Center can help you determine which vaccines your student needs before the February deadline.

Student Medications - Families needing to check in medications to their school should plan to do so in person during the first days of the school year. Only medications that are needed while at school are allowed (no vitamins or once a day medications that can be taken at home.)

  • Medications must be brought in by the parent/guardian in the original container.
  • Prescription medications must have RX label, including inhalers and Epi-pens. If inhalers need to be carried on the student at all times, a doctor's note indicating that that student is capable of safe, self-administration should be provided to the school.
  • Medications must have appropriate instructions on the bottle. The school is not allowed to give medications for off-label uses or different dosages than recommended.

Vision and Dental Screenings - Student health screenings are coordinated by Springfield Public Schools (SPS) Health Services and performed each school year for grades K-8. SPS partners with the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation for vision and with the Community Health Centers of Lane County for dental. Please contact your school health aide if you do not want your student to participate in either of the health screenings.

Springfield Schools Health Center - The Springfield Schools Health Center clinic is conveniently located on the Springfield High School campus and serves all Springfield students needing routine check-ups, well child care or immunizations, ill children, children without a doctor and those needing comprehensive health care including sports physicals. Families with and without insurance are welcome. Call (541) 682-3550 to make an appointment.

Thurston High School Child Development Center preschool - This preschool is open to any member of the community looking for quality, affordable childcare for their three to five year old. Registering now for fall!

Family Resource Centers - Need help getting supplies, clothing or food for your student? Our Family Resource Centers can help!

Volunteer - Our community is an important part of our schools. Volunteers must complete an application and pass a background check. Only have a little time here and there to spare? That's ok - it still makes a big difference for our students!

After School Child Care (partnership with Willamalane)Willamalane works with Springfield Public Schools to offer childcare programs at Springfield elementary schools through Kids Club programs.  Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Willamalane's fall registration opens Wednesday, August 12 at 8 a.m.
