  • SPS Grad Honors

    Three Springfield students have been named Ford Scholars this year. Emma Babcock, Benjamin Walsh of Springfield High and Thurston High's Sean Gley are among 110 students in Oregon to reeive the award, from more than 7,000 applicants. They receive a renewable scholarship that will cover 90% of their financial need for each academic year, including grad school. Nice job, kids!

  • THS E-Cars Are Top in the State

    After competing in a grueling five-race series that finished with a race at Valley River Center in May, the Thurston High School electric race car team finished the season #1 in the state - and #2, #3 and #4! The fifth car tied for 5th place, and the sixth car took 7th place. Fantastic! This is the third year in a row the the team has taken home the top state honors. Way to go, Mark Bray and the THS e-car team!

  • District Musicians Soar at State

    Congratulations to Thurston's musicians for a fantastic year! Thurston High's small percussion ensemble won state (and the second group came in 3rd!). The THS jazz band took 2nd at state. And the Thurston wind ensemble took 6th

    The brass quintet and large percussion ensemble also competed at state.

    Thurston High scored a huge number of individual state qualifiers:

    High Saxophone - Wesley ColemanTrumpet - Sean GleyHorn - Bailey HamptonTrombone - Ben Aldana (David Bartzen was second); Rudimental Snare - Logan Pearl (Riley Gault was second); Mallets - Riley Gault 2nd, Logan Pearl 3rd, Mikayla Terrell 4th; Timpani - Riley GaultSoprano Voice - Keylei Jones (second).

    Of these, Logan Pearl went on to take 2nd in Rudimental Snare.

    At Springfield High, the SHS Choir took 4th place at state. Trenton Fleenor qualified for the state solo competition in tuba and bass voice, and came in 4th at state in tuba.  

    James Fuller won districts in tenor voice, and the percussion ensemble won the district festival and went to the state festival in May.

  • THS Equestrians Repeat State Titles

    Congratulations to the Thurston High equestrian team! Four OHSET team members - seniors Meagan Duncan, Alison Miller and Kenzie Wagner and junior Taryne Gormley - repeated their titles as state champs in the Canadian Flags event at May's state meet in Redmond. Alison and Meagan also took 1st place in the Birangle event.

  • Spelling Contest WInners

    Congratulations to our top spellers, winners of this year's district-wide spelling contest! Elementary: The top speller was Theot Campbell from Maple Elementary (pictured on the left). Peyton Reed came in second place. Middle School: Brayden Mitchell (on the right) of Hamlin took first. Lydia Schellenberg of Agnes Stewart was second. All will go on to the county contest on May 16.

  • TMS's Brandi Starck Named Middle School Principal of the Year

  • SHS Tuba Player to Represent US in Australia

    Congratulations to Springfield High tuba player Trenton Fleenor, who has been invited to the Pacific Honors Ensemble Program (PHEP) in Australia this fall.

    Fleener, who will be competing for SHS at state, will be working under preeminent national and international conductors and clinicians as part of the program.

  • Springfield's Rain Barrel Contest

    The City of Springfield's Rain Barrell contest involved about 325 4th-graders at Maple, Douglas Gardens, Ridgeview, Riverbend and Walterville elementaries. The winners were honored at a City Council meeting, and the winning barrels will be on display in City Hall through Earth Day. The barrels will go back to interested schools for rainwater harvesting projects. Very cool!

  • 2018 Brain Bowl

    Agnes Stewart, Briggs, Hamlin and Thurston middle schools competed in the district's 24th annual Brain Bowl on April 12, answering questions based on curriculum they have studied.

    Although the Briggs 7th- and 8th-graders both won their rounds, Agnes Stewart, whose team won the 6th-grade round, took the overall title for the day with the most total points. Congratulations to all the participants!

  • THS Wind Ensemble Heading to State

    Congratulations to the Thurston Wind Ensemble for winning the OMEA district 12 championships at South Eugene High School. The band was awarded the highest score out of all 5A and 6A bands. The group also won the OSAA league championship in Medford the following week, for an automatic berth at this year’s state contest.

    Update: The wind ensemble placed 6th at state. Way to go, winds!
