Mystery Science

Elementary teachers in SPS have access to Mystery Science, an engaging, inquiry-based, hands-on curriculum that uses captivating "mystery" questions to guide students through hands-on activities and discussions, helping them discover scientific concepts by exploring real-world phenomena through a fun and curious approach, and focuses on fostering critical thinking skills while aligning with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Learning Format

From exploring volcanoes and stars to biodiversity, habitats, and species, Mystery Science units of study contain:

  • Hands-on, easy-prep activities with every lesson.
  • Engaging, real-world investigative phenomena.
  • Thoughtful discussions to build background knowledge.
  • Lesson and unit assessments to evaluate comprehension.
  • Curated, cross-curricular extensions.

Mystery Science also offers the Anchor Layer, which enriches the unit with an anchor phenomenon, incorporates anchor connections after each lesson, & concludes the unit with a performance task.
