Early Entry
In general, children are expected to be five years of age on or before September 1 before enrolling in kindergarten.
Per Administrative Rule JEBA, children whose birth dates fall between September 2 and October 1 can be assessed to be considered for early entry into kindergarten.
How the Process Works
- Parents should first notify the Director of Special Programs of their intent to seek early enrollment by contacting the Director Secretary at 541-726-3250.
- Then, parents must solicit a private evaluation by a fully qualified individual of their choice. All costs incurred for early entry testing will be the parent's responsibility.
- The evaluation will be reviewed by a District team that includes a district administrator and the school psychologist, and may include a kindergarten teacher.
Students who are accepted for early entry will be selected because they are socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually prepared to meet the demands of the kindergarten program.
All recommendations for early entry will be reviewed by the Director of Special Programs. If the Director's decision is unsatisfactory to the parents, they may appeal to the Superintendent or designee for a final decision.
