Meet the School Board

  • Todd Mann Todd Mann, Position 1
    Term Expires: 06.30.2023

    Todd was elected to the school board in May 2019. He was born and raised here in Springfield. Todd and his wife Kai are the proud parents of two future Mt. Vernon Elementary School students. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the U of O and his master’s degree abroad. Todd has over ten years of teaching experience including at all levels from elementary school through university. Currently, Todd is the owner of a small financial services business here in town. Todd wants to build a thriving, inclusive community through his work on the Springfield School Board.

  • Emilio Hernandez Emilio Hernandez Ph.D., Position 2
    Term Expires: 06.30.2021

    Emilio was elected to the school board in May 2017. He has lived in Springfield for more than 45 years and is committed to helping all children gain a meaningful education and experience in our schools. Emilio has served on the district's Budget Committee and the Bond Oversight Committee and also served nine years on the state Board of Education. A former migrant worker, he has been actively involved in both area and national Latino organizations and is passionate about issues affecting families in poverty. With a PhD in higher education, he is currently employed working directly with at-risk youth through Direction Service, a Springfield agency the provides support for disabled children.

  • Zach Bessett Zachary Bessett, Chair, Position 3
    Term Expires: 06.30.2021

    Zach was elected to the school board in May 2017. Zach has lived in Springfield for more than 30 years and is a 2000 Springfield High School graduate. Having a teaching degree himself, Zach is enthusiastic about helping create endless possibilities for our community's youth. He currently works as a sports and recreation coordinator at Willamalane and does freelance woodworking and mechanic. He has a special interest in career and technical education and STEAM curriculum. He has previously served on the district's budget committee and the bond oversight committee.

  • Naomi Raven Naomi Raven, Vice Chair, Position 4
    Term Expires: 06.30.2023

    Naomi was appointed to the school board in August 2018, and elected in 2019. She and her husband have lived in Springfield for 10 years and have four children in Springfield schools. Her roots in education are deep – as a licensed teacher whose parents were both educators, she cares deeply about helping every child succeed. She has taught at multiple levels, including substituting in Springfield, and has volunteered on a number of committees at both at the school and district levels. As a teacher, she is especially interested in providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for students, and in the design of special education programs. She is committed to fully understanding the needs of the district, and to ensuring that all students are valued and respected. She hopes to help encourage families to become active participants in their children’s education.

  • Lisa Barrager Lisa Barrager, Position 5
    Term Expires: 06.30.2021

    Lisa Barrager was appointed to the Springfield School Board in September 2019. Her term expires June 30, 2021.

    Barrager has lived in Springfield for more than 50 years. She is the second of three generations of her family who attended and graduated from Springfield High School. Barrager graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Western Oregon University and currently works as a Wraparound facilitator at Direction Service, in Springfield. The nonprofit works with at-risk youth.

    Barrager has said that she is passionate about raising awareness of the benefits of adequate mental health and special education services, including trauma-informed practices. She’s also committed to working toward more individualized education services and promoting student success, especially in underserved populations.
