Ridgeview Announcements

  • Even though our school building has been closed for the remainder of the year our wonderful kitchen staff will continue to offer free lunch at Ridgeview between 11:00 - 1:00 every weekday. Breakfast food for the following day is also available, so grab that when you pick up lunch. Remember to practice healthy social distancing when you stop by!

    Our Custodial team is continuing to clean and disinfect Ridgeview to ensure a clean environment when students and staff return for next year.

Ridgeview Principal Corner

  • Welcome to Ridgeview Elementary

    Posted by Jeremy Hugo on 1/13/2020

    Dear Ridgeview families,

    I realize that there have been challenges in getting all of the necessary information needed in regards to children and Distance Learning. I am going to attempt to capture key info below:

    • Distance Learning:  We are all trying to get our heads around the best way to keep kids and families connected to the school community and to learning. We are NOT attempting to replace ‘regular school’ and turn parents/guardians into teachers! We are NOT expecting students to sit in front of a computer from 8:35 - 2:50! We are simply trying to stay connected, get kids involved with some reading and math lessons (maybe more… our staff is still learning, as well). We are trying to keep kids exercising and staying healthy. Click on this schedule to link to see an example of how this could look, but know that this may change over time. We realize that this model creates a multitude of challenges for many households, so be sure to communicate respectfully with the teachers about your needs and we will do our best to help. We can figure this out together and make the best of the biggest global challenge of our lifetimes.
    • If you still need to check out a district technology device, click here.  Due to the large number of devices needed throughout our SPS system of 10,500 students, here are the parameters for devices:
      • 2nd - 8th grade get one device for every two kids in the household;
      • KG-1st grade get one iPad for each child.
      • Pick up sites are Thurston High School and Hamlin Middle School, from 10-6.
    • I would like to thank you all for your patience as we figure things out as a District, as a school team, and as individuals in this new world. We will show that same patience and care back with you as parents who are figuring out how to manage a household, a job that is suddenly online or changed (or unemployment), distance learning (with multiple children!), and stress and worry about people getting sick. This is an unprecedented time in our lifetimes, and we really want you to prioritize caring for yourselves and your families as we navigate this situation together. I know I can speak for the Ridgeview staff when I express sadness about ending the “in-person school year” without closure, hugs, or goodbyes.

    We want to be as supportive as we can be in these challenging times, so be sure to stay connected to our amazing school community. Now that we are starting Distance Learning next week, I will attempt to keep you informed!

    Stay tuned! Stay healthy! We miss you!
