  • Quarter 1 Comes to a Close

Posted by José da Silva on 11/1/2021

    Dear SHS Students and Families,

As we collectively wrap up the first 9 weeks (or Quarter 1) of this unprecedented school year, please take a few moments to navigate our NEW website!

Additionally, this is a reminder to all that Quarter 1 grades serve as a progress report only and are NOT final grades that become part of student's transcript. Semester 1 grades are finalized and reported on transcripts at the end of Quarter 2 in early February. Your student will remain in their same class schedule and is able to work on their current grade until that time.

Finally, if you are interested in learning more about SPS district online schooling options for high school students, please read on and/or visit the district website for more on the transfer process.

    Online Options:

     SPS Online-

An independent learning option with the greatest degree of schedule flexibility. SPSOnline is the district’s long-standing online option that allows students to access learning on their own schedule with regular check-ins with teachers to ensure support and success.

    Brattain Online-

New this year, the district will be offering online learning on a set schedule with live instruction from SPS teachers. This option provides regular daily scheduled real-time learning with SPS teachers paired with portions of independent study.

Please visit this site for more information: Academics at SPS / Online Learning

If you have any questions, please contact us at (541) 744-4700

    Sincerely,

    José da Silva

    Principal

  • Quarter 1 Grades

Last week marked the end of the first nine weeks of school. This grading period is the midpoint of the semester. The grade students received for Quarter 1 is a progress indicator for the semester. Credit is awarded at the end of the semester, which is February 4th, 2022.

Some teachers will give a first 9-week grade (Quarter 1), followed by a second 9-week grade (Quarter 2). These two, 9-week grades are averaged together to determine the semester grade for the class. Other teachers may determine grades on a rolling basis. In this case, the gradebook will continue uninterrupted until the end of the semester in February.

In all cases, students are able to continue to work to revise and resubmit previously attempted assignments to improve their grades. All first attempts (late work) must be completed by the late-work deadline. The next late-work deadline is Friday, November 12th.
