Superintendent Search:
Opportunities for Involvement

As the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education conducts a search for the next superintendent, it will create opportunities for community members and district staff to get involved.

Survey and Focus Group Results

Search consultant Greg McKenzie, Window to Leadership LLC, held fourteen focus groups for stakeholders across the district (students, parents, staff, community members) to determine what the qualities and qualifications of a new superintendent should be. The results of the focus groups and the survey were shared with the board during the January 28 board meeting. The information in the summary will be used to create the application packet and to announce the vacancy and open position. 

The summary packet includes, in the following order:

An overview of the input process and the method used to compile the information. (Pages 2–3)

Recommended language taken from the survey and focus groups regarding the qualifications of the next superintendent. (Pages 4–5)

The school board's 2012-2013 strategic goals for the district. (Page 7)

A copy of Board Policy CB/CBA, which outlines the minimum duties and qualifications of a superintendent. (Pages 8–11)

Graphs and tables detailing the response to each question of the online survey. (Pages 12–18)


Members of Superintendent Application Screening Committee Appointed - UPDATED!

In total, 52 applications were received from staff, students, parents and community members. School board members reviewed each application and during the January 28 board meeting appointed 25 members to the screening committee. The board also expressed its appreciation to all those who applied and shared how wonderful it is to have such an involved community.

The application screening committee members are:

SPS Administrators: David Collins, Tom Lindly, Brooke Wagner, Paul Weill and Brett Yancey.

SPS Certified Staff: Linda Mooney, Laura Scruggs, Paul Stevens, and Judy Svoboda.

SPS Classified Staff: Yvonne Atteberry, Lisa Fjordbeck, Sherry Moore, and Shelley Toncray.

SPS Other Staff: Lynn Lary.

SPS Students: Harley Emery and Rhodec Erickson.

Community Member and Parents: Jim Balumas, Tina DeHaven, Mike Garling, Gino Grimaldi, Bill Medford, Kelli Ngariki, Stan Paine, Kristin Smith, and Jessica Walker.

The committee will meet on the evening of March 6 for training and screen all applications between March 6 and 9. Committee members should expect to spend about 15 hours screening applications and receiving training. Each committee member will be contacted directly with detailed information prior to March 6.
